Poppies have been fixed to the street lights around the North Lodge area of Chester-le-Street. The Grey Horse pub in Consett has been announced as the pub of the year in the North East category in CAMRA’s nationwide search for the best pub in Britain. Dating back to 1848, the Grey Horse is the oldest pub in Consett and one of the oldest pubs in the North East. Ales on offer at the Grey Horse include Consett Red Dust, Consett Steel Town Bitter, and Consett Steelworkers Blonde. Since 2005 these and other award-winning beers have been brewed on-site at the Consett Ale Works brewery located at the back of the pub.
Labour are celebrating road improvements in preparation for the 10th July's Durham County Council's Cabinet. Liberal Democrat County Councillor Craig Martin calls this into question as the data tells a story of failure and worsening roads. That the Labour Portfolio Holder also needs questioning on their competence to do the position.
From 19th May Chester-le-Street Railway station will have an extra weekday service to Newcastle. The 2.15pm to Newcastle will operate all throughout the week rather than just Saturdays. Lib Dem County Councillor Craig Martin has been campaigning for improved rail services and welcomes the change.
